Bands For Brothers in Arms Oshawa concert supports Wounded Warriors Canada Concerts held Nov. 7 to 9
OSHAWA — The band is slated to take the stage November 8 at 8 p.m. October 2014
OSHAWA — Twenty-nine bands and artists are performing in Oshawa over three days in support of Wounded Warriors Canada.
It’s the third year for the Bands For Brothers in Arms concerts, but in the wake of Corporal Nathan Cirillo’s death in Ottawa on Oct. 22, and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent’s on Oct. 20, an already meaningful event now has much more significance.
“Our troops, past and presently, have stood tall to protect us,” says Martin Bonnie of Courtice, organizer of the event, from local band Stone Soup. “And recent incidents in Ottawa and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu show that our armed forces are at risk, even at home. We need to show our active and veteran troops that we’ve got their backs. There are several great organizations to support, whether through a direct donation or through fundraising events like Bands For Brothers In Arms.”
Bands and artists from virtually every Durham municipality are performing at Simcoe Blues and Jazz in Oshawa from Nov. 7 to 9. And many have said they are honoured to be playing the event.
“We believe it is a great cause and know people firsthand that have needed the services,” said Amanda de Boer of Oshawa duo Amanda and Steven. “It is a little thing we can do while they are doing a big thing. We had fun at the event last year and are looking forward to it again. Honoured to be asked.”
“The Storm Crows are proud to be part of this great event supporting the men and women of the Canadian Forces and the Wounded Warriors Canada organization,” said Dean Lindsay of Oshawa’s The Storm Crows.
The shows run Nov. 7 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., Nov. 8 from noon to 1 a.m. and Nov. 9 from noon to midnight.
Simcoe Blues and Jazz is at 926 Simcoe St. N.
Tickets are $10 per day.
